This section introduces how to use the "KubeSphere Service Mesh" extension.

The "KubeSphere Service Mesh" extension is used to enable the service mesh functionality of the KubeSphere platform. It is built on the open-source project Istio, providing visualization for microservices governance and traffic management. It boasts a powerful toolkit, including circuit breaking, blue-green deployment, canary release, traffic mirroring, distributed tracing, observability, and traffic control.

After installing the "KubeSphere Service Mesh" extension, the Grayscale Release option will appear in the left navigation pane of the workspace, supporting the creation of composed apps and the management of grayscale releases for composed apps.

Note

Before installing KubeSphere Service Mesh, you need to configure an available Prometheus service and an OpenSearch service in the extension settings. For more information about extension configuration, please refer to the details page of the "KubeSphere Service Mesh" extension in the Extensions Center.

Note

After installing the "KubeSphere Service Mesh" extension, the "Application Workloads > Composed App" menu in the workspace will no longer be displayed, but you can continue to manage the created composed apps using this extension. For more information, please refer to Composed Apps.
